Avon CT was incorporated in 1830, named after the Avon River in England. Prior to 1830, it was a part of the village of Northington in Farmington. It was originally established by settlers in 1645 who called the area Tunxis Plantation. Population in 1830 was only 1025. The town now has more than 17,000 residents. It still feels like a village, with a quaint New England town atmosphere.
